Message Hello all. OK, here I go posting on hesitation again with my 91' TTZ. I have a recently installed Ash ECU and the hesitation is under full boost between 3,000 rpms and 5,000 rpm. Past that, it doesn’t hesitate and the chip is working as it should. Once in a while, it won’t hesitate at all and it puts me back into my seat like nothing I’ve ever been in. :)

So, this is a list of troubleshooting I’ve done:

1. Changed all spark plugs. Running the longer spark plugs that are supposed to be in it. I do believe we picked these up from Z1 Motorsports.

2. Tested the coil packs all fine. Even took coil packs from another 91TTZ and ran those in my Z and still hesitation. Also, the coil pack connectors are brittle and chipped off on some connectors. I’m wondering under high boost if these connectors are “giving out.” However, high in the RPM range, no hesitation.

3. Tested fuel pressure. All within specs.

4. Cleaned the K&N and MAF sensor. This is where it gets interesting. There was a lot of corrosion in the MAF housing unit. Seemed to work a lot better when we cleaned it, so bought a whole new filter and thought it would eliminate it. It didn’t.

5. I’ve changed gas from Kroger 93 octane to Speedway 93 octane. I’ve been researching the gas company forums and a lot of people are saying BP and/or Chevron are the best regarding fuel quality. However, the Speedway where I was at, I learned that they just won a prestigious award for gas from a huge survey. ([ www.speedway.com ]) My car was on E when I put this new gas in. I didn’t fill it up all the way but I know being on E and this “better” gas may have helped. Sure enough, A few miles down the road, I punched it from a dead stop and it slammed me back in my seat from 1st and 2nd gear. However, this was short lived. Started hesitating again as mentioned above. Could my car just be getting used to gas and after I fill up a couple of times it will be more constant?

6. On my passenger side, there is a constant puttering from my exhaust. You can feel it and hear it a little. The driver’s side exhaust flows out smooth but the right side has a putter. From the above, you would have thought all would fix that as well. To no avail, it did not. Could these two be related?

7. Lastly, my car runs at a real high idle. Always has. 1,500!

I’m really at a stand still here guys. I’m going to post this to every Z forum I can find and hope I can get this thing figured out.

Thanks and I look forward to your responses.

Ashley
